Graduate School Fair
Saturday, January 26 and Sunday, January 27th
2:00 – 5:00 pm @ the Fawcett Center
Some of the established goals of the Big Ten Conference on Black Student Leadership are to enhance education, opportunity and diversity. We also feel that a conference should be a blend of educational sessions, as well as finding resources to further your educational goals. In light of this, we are excited to offer a two-day Graduate Fair that will be a wonderful opportunity to meet with admissions representatives from campuses throughout Ohio and the Big Ten region.
Whether you are just beginning to consider graduate school, or have specific questions for the schools on site, we hope that each conference attendee will take advantage of this event. Wherever you are process of considering graduate studies, here are some helpful hints for getting the most out of the Graduate Fair:
- Know whom you want to meet, but be open to looking into schools and opportunities you had not previously considered.~ Picking up a map of the participating institutions, as well as their location at the conference site, will assist you in this process.
- Think about the questions that are important to you in advance.~ Having them written down in advance may help you compare different opportunities later. Some common questions revolve around geographic location, the reputation of the program at a particular institution, the curriculum offered, faculty ratios and research areas, financial considerations, career services offered, and facilities offered at the institution.
- Be aware of where you are personally in the process of applying to graduate or professional school. ~ This will better enable the admissions representatives to assist you with your questions. (i.e., are you exploring the idea of graduate school overall, exploring specific career options, or researching programs in a specific field of study?)
- Make a positive first impression! ~ Look professional, be friendly and most importantly be yourself.
- Create a method for collecting information and keeping in touch. ~You may want to ask for the representative's business card along with a brochure and application, and have a system for keeping these organized as you review them later.
